Introducing a new concept in Flyinshoes delivery....the flyinshoes sampler. Instead of weighing down my monthly podcast with my doleful tones I am packaging a dozen hearty tracks for disemmination under the flyinshoes 'label' model or something like the Uncut/Mojo and old Comes with a Smile free cds. I am basically taking a leaf out of music blog practice (thanks Truersounds :-) and utilising free upload facility at megaupload (which works well). I will package a selection of what I consider to be best tracks I receive each month into a handy downloadable zip file.

All the tracks presented will have agreed to distribution in this manner by submitting to the website. If anybody has a problem with use of a particular track let me know. Basically I will offer the tracks in much the same way as when recorded into a MP3 podcast but now they are stand alone tracks. Hopefully in most cases the tracks will be being offered as promo 'free' items anyway. I will also write a brief overview/ review of tracks used on the blog to accompany the downloadable zip file which will also include track listing and sleeve art at 300dpi for printing.

I do not know how successful this may be but with DRM and Itunes seeming to be headed for a 'ring-fencing' of freedom of expression (see the Guardian UK article) I feel it a valid and fresh spin on trying to promote what used to be known as 'Americana' music.

If successful I hope in future editions to maybe offer tracks not available elsewhere i.e. out-takes and bonus tracks with consent of artists. Maybe just maybe this a path forward. Maybe just maybe this may lead to 'proper' releases - we shall see...
